While a few of the legacy strengths such as the creation suite are still strong, the most important part, the gameplay is in a bad place. It feels as if this was a rebuilding year for the WWE 2K franchise. I’d hoped for more in the way of options and new ideas, but that isn’t in this year’s game. Unfortunately, even that core foundation isn’t as stable as it has been in the past.

The Originals, while nice, is simply a skin placed over the same combat concepts that have been present in the series for years. It could be the last one exclusively available for PS4 and Xbox One (from a console standpoint), and it’s the. The Ambulance Match, Beat the Clock, and a few more would have been nice additions to the game.Īside from WWE 2K Originals, there is nothing presented in WWE 2K20 that feels fresh. WWE 2K20 is an important version in the series’ history. Also, there are a few missing match types. I love the creation suite on a whole, but we’re still missing Create-A-Finisher, and at launch, Create-A-Championship isn’t in the game. In any case, this is still a major weak point for the series. The remedy is a generic announce team that can be brought in for additional recordings, or perhaps someone in development with WWE who doesn’t have as rigorous of a schedule. I think it’s a matter of access to the WWE’s voice talent. I don’t fault the developers for this issue. Every year you can expect to hear the same misplaced, oddly emoted lines from a commentary team that sounds as if they are recording their lines on a 7-second delay. The commentary in WWE games is as consistently bad as the creation suite is good.
This is the case with many games, but I cannot remember noticing it so vividly from one area of a title to the next. However, during matches in an actual arena, there is a noticeable downgrade in visual fidelity. The character models look strong during entrances, victory celebrations and in the backstage brawls.
