Using market research and the metrics we reviewed from the categories listed above, we also ranked additional criteria based on customer opinions on topics that ranged from value for the price and ease of use to popularity and any stand-out features each provider offered. These third-party ratings accounted for 15% of the final tally. We looked at how each payroll service fared in customer reviews on third-party websites such as G2 and Capterra, focusing on the ratings each provider received of 3.5 or higher out of 5 on each site. These features accounted for 35% of our total score.

Many providers rely on third-party integrations to handle this aspect of payroll, which we factored into our rankings. We found that while the majority of payroll services offer an employee portal, very few offer a well-rounded ledger report. These included a self-service employee portal, HR library, new hire reporting, compatibility with third-party integrations, analytics and ledger reporting. Nanny payroll service providers need to deliver many of the same features that other small businesses require, so we maintained consistency in our ratings by looking for specific features from each provider. Pricing amounted to 15% of our total scoring. If a company provided transparent pricing, that also played a part in our ratings.

Pricingįor pricing, we considered whether a service offers a free trial as well as the affordability of its lowest and highest price tiers. We also considered real customer experiences. We rated 15 criteria such as ease of use, whether the service can file nanny taxes for you, if there is a nanny-specific employee portal and how much the service costs. To come up with the best nanny payroll service, Forbes Advisor considered 24 payroll services and plans-some whose entire business centers on household employees, and other larger payroll services that offer a nanny payroll solution.
